A devastating incident at Carlton Railway Station in Sydney has left the community in shock, but also in awe of a father’s ultimate sacrifice. On Sunday, July 21, a stroller carrying twin daughters rolled onto train tracks, and their father, a 40-year-old man, risked everything to save them.
Security footage shows the family, who had recently arrived in Australia from India, enjoying a routine outing. However, tragedy struck when the stroller rolled onto the tracks, and an oncoming train approached. Without hesitation, the father leaped onto the tracks to rescue his daughters, but was struck by the train.
He and one of the twins tragically lost their lives.
The surviving twin was rescued from underneath the train, unharmed, thanks to the father’s heroic act. Police Superintendent Paul Dunstan praised the father’s bravery, saying, “He went into parent mode and tried to save his two young daughters… it cost him his life.”
NSW Premier Chris Minns commended the father’s sacrifice, calling it an “extraordinary instinctive act of bravery.” The mother, who witnessed the incident, is receiving support and is in a state of shock.
Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident, including the potential role of a gust of wind. The community, particularly the Indian community, has rallied around the grieving family, offering support during this difficult time.
