Mel Pressley
Melanie Pressley, 18, had her first son Greg Vossler, 33, in Canton, Ohio. Her partner opposed her keeping the baby. He promised not to be a father if she kept the baby. Heartbroken, the young woman felt she couldn’t afford a child. She longed for two loving parents for the child. She gave the kid up for adoption instead.
June 17, 1988, saw the birth. She wanted his adoptive parents to name him. She briefly held her kid, even though it was forbidden. Her only connection to her kid for 30 years was a snapshot taken by her sister.
Pressley married and had three more children. She always remembers her first child, especially on June 17.
Greg Vossler
Greg Vossler’s new family was thrilled.
“Maybe when I was nine or ten or somewhere in that age group, they shared with me the story that I had been adopted and that the woman who had given me up thought I may have better life elsewhere,” he says. His biological family’s medical history was unknown. He took a DNA test in 2018 after becoming a father to understand more about his genetics.

Rachel, Melanie’s daughter, also sought a link to her mother’s first son. Rachel gave her mum the 23andme DNA test to learn more about her genetics for health reasons.
The site found Greg and Melanie related within days.
Melanie texted Greg soon. She asked his age and birthday. After confirming his birthday, she told him she thought she was his biological mother.
Big reunion
After 33 years, they reunited in June 2021. Greg’s family visited Melanie’s family in Ohio.
Everyone is emotional, shakes hands, or hugs. ‘I’m your half-brother, half-sister.’ Her older sister, who helped Melanie take the first photo, came over and grabbed my face. Greg said, “33 years since she saw me.”
Melanie loves her son and thinks she made the correct decision years ago. Polite, gentle, and compassionate, the Vossler family raised him. Melanie then visited Greg’s adoptive parents and relatives in Virginia.
When you get older, you’re wiser, but there’s no shame in adopting. Loving couples who cannot have children want to raise them.”
