A Connecticut church leader was crossing the street to get his mail when he was hit by a police officer and killed.
Zachary Lockwood, a 24-year-old police officer in Stamford, was driving his department-owned SUV down the street around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Tommie Jackson, 69, was crossing the street after getting mail from a mailbox. He was a well-known preacher in the area.
Reports say that Officer Lockwood saw Jackson and turned his car around to avoid hitting him. Jackson was hit by the police car, though, and he died at the Stamford Hospital from his injuries.
Dorye Jackson is one of the five people on the Stamford Police Commission. She is the wife of a well-known pastor.
