A lot of us think there’s nothing we wouldn’t do to make sure our family is happy and healthy. Although this statement is mostly true, it can be hard to drop everything to help a loved one in need as we get older and start our own families.
Many of us can do small acts of kindness and be there for people when they need to talk. But what if a family member needed you to quit your job, move across the world, and spend your whole life taking care of them?
This question won’t come up for most of us, which is good news. An artist and singer from the Philippines named Chris Punsalan, on the other hand, did.
Reports say Chris’s family lives in Nevada, but his grandma, who is 96 years old, lives in the Philippines. The plan worked well until his grandmother ran out of people who could help take care of her. Her family was thinking about putting her in a care home, but Chris was ready to go the extra mile and do something that most of us would never think to do.
In short, Chris chose to uproot his whole life and move back to the Philippines to take care of his grandma full-time.
A few years ago, Chris told ABS-CBN, “She took care of me, and I don’t want her to go to homecare, which is where I think most grandparents go in the United States.” People who can’t take care of themselves go to home care.
Chris already had a following online because he made content, so he probably couldn’t have known that his choice would go international. He decided to start this new journey by sharing videos, one of which showed a normal day with his grandma.
He told her, “To see her forget who I am sometimes and for me to have to remind her.” “That’s probably one of the hardest things because it keeps throwing me back to how fragile and short life is.”
The caring young man Chris lives away from his family and has made a lot of sacrifices to take care of his grandma. However, he feels lucky to be able to spend so much time with his elderly relative.
