Regrettably, star Gary Sinise and his family have lost their 33-year-old son, McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise.

Gary, who is 68 years old, broke the sad news of Mac’s death on the Gary Sinise Foundation’s website and on his Instagram page. He said that Mac had died on January 5 from cancer.

Gary said in a touching speech that Mac had been fighting Chordoma, a rare form of cancer, since August 8, 2018. Soon after Gary’s wife Moira Harris was told she had stage three breast cancer, she got this sad news.

However, Moira responded well to treatment and went into recovery, while Mac’s condition got worse over time, making him weaker and less mobile.

Even though Mac had health problems, he was strong and kept doing what he loved, which was singing. As an assistant manager of education and marketing for the Gary Sinise Foundation, Mac also showed off his drumming skills by playing with his father in the Lt. Dan Band.

Mac loved music very much and graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in writing songs and putting them together. Even though Mac had five surgeries on his spine from 2018 to 2020, being paralyzed from the chest down did not stop him from being creative. He finished work on a record called “Resurrection & Revival” not long before he died.

“Like any family going through such a loss, we are devastated and have been coping as best we can,” Gary said about his deep sadness over losing a child. Parents have a very hard time when they lose a child. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has lost a loved one or been through a similar loss. To some degree, we’ve all felt it. Over the years, I’ve met a lot of families of our heroes who have died. It hurts my heart and is really very hard.

He went on to say, “Our family’s fight with cancer lasted 5 ½ years and got harder as time went on.” Although we miss him, we take comfort in knowing that Mac is no longer in pain, and we are touched and inspired by how strong he was. He never gave up in his fight against a cancer that has no fix.

His parents, sisters, cousins, nephews, and other relatives still feel the effects of Mac’s death. Gary is still committed to keeping Mac’s memory alive, and he recently released his album “Mac Sinise: Resurrection and Revival” on vinyl.

Gary is going through a lot of sadness, but his words show how much he loves and respects his son. The memory of Mac will always inspire and lift those who were lucky enough to have met him.
