Reports indicate that Tina Turner had a distant relationship with her children, especially after she moved to Switzerland. The latest revelation adds to the sadness: her son was arrested just before her passing.
Ike Turner Jr., Tina Turner’s 64-year-old son, was arrested on May 6 in Alvin, Texas, for possession of crack cocaine and tampering with evidence. This arrest happened 18 days before Tina Turner, aged 83, died at her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland.
The police stopped Ike Jr. at 12:09 a.m. for a vehicle equipment failure, such as a broken headlight or taillight. He was driving a white 2013 Ford Fusion.
During the stop, officers found Ike Jr. in possession of less than a gram of methamphetamine and 1.7 grams of crack cocaine. In a desperate attempt to hide the drugs, he reportedly tried to eat them before the officers could seize them.
Jessica Salinas-Esquivel, who was a passenger in the car, is also facing charges for drug possession.
Ike Jr. has been held in Brazoria County Jail for a month, unable to post his $70,000 bail.
Ike Turner Sr., Ike Jr.’s father and namesake, had a well-documented struggle with substance abuse. Married to Tina Turner from 1962 to 1978, Ike Sr. faced multiple drug-related arrests and even served time in prison. He died of a cocaine overdose at 76 in December 2007.
Tina Turner, who passed away on May 24 after enduring years of health issues, including a kidney transplant in April 2017 donated by her husband Erwin Bach, leaves behind a complex legacy.
The arrest of Ike Jr. adds to the family’s turmoil. We hope for the best outcome for him and send our thoughts to the Turner family during this difficult time.
