I never believed in karma until it hit my entitled neighbor, Meredith, right where it hurt. She had been a thorn in my side since the day she moved in, always complaining about something or other.
But the final straw was when she demanded I remove my solar garden lights, threatening to sue me if I didn’t comply. I tried to reason with her, explaining that the lights were harmless, but she wouldn’t budge.
Reluctantly, I took down the lights, but not before my daughter, Lily, was visibly upset. She had helped me install them, and they held sentimental value.
The next morning, Meredith was at my doorstep, frantic and disheveled. Her garden, once her pride and joy, had been ravaged by raccoons. They had destroyed her expensive flowers and plants, and she was beside herself.
But here’s the kicker – she blamed me for the mess, demanding I reinstall the solar lights and help her clean up the destruction. The entitlement was palpable.
I stood firm, refusing to take responsibility for her problems. “You wanted the lights down, now deal with the consequences,” I told her.
As I watched her try to rebuild her garden, spending hours and money, I couldn’t help but smile. Karma had come full circle. She had asked for the lights to be removed, and now she was paying the price.
My daughter and I, on the other hand, reinstalled our solar lights, adding a few more for good measure. We enjoyed our evenings in the garden, surrounded by the soft glow of the lights, while Meredith was left to ponder the consequences of her actions.
It was a valuable lesson in the power of karma and the importance of treating others with kindness and respect. If only Meredith had been more considerate, things might have turned out differently.
