As I watched my husband, Clark, and his mother, Nadia, luxuriate in first class, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of injustice. Meanwhile, I was stuck in economy with our two kids. But I wasn’t about to let him get away with it.

Clark’s decision to upgrade himself and his mother without considering our family’s needs was a classic case of selfishness. I decided to teach him a lesson he wouldn’t forget.

With his wallet safely in my possession (I had “borrowed” it earlier), I watched as Clark tried to enjoy his luxurious flight. But when the flight attendant asked him to pay for his expensive meal, he realized his wallet was missing.

The look on his face was priceless as he frantically searched for it. I pretended to be concerned, offering him a mere $200 to cover his expenses. The rest of the flight was uncomfortable for him, to say the least.

As we left the airport, Clark was still stressing about his lost wallet. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction, knowing that I had taught him a lesson in humility. And, of course, I had his credit card to treat myself to something nice before returning his wallet.

Moral of the story: if your partner thinks they’re above the rest of you, it’s time to bring them back down to earth. And sometimes, a little creative justice is the best way to do it.
