Italian skier Matilde Lorenzi tragically lost her life due to a skiing accident, where she fell in Val Senes during one of her training sessions on the Grawand G1 slope.

Taking to Instagram to express their condolences, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) penned a heartfelt tribute to Lorenzi, who was 19 at the time of her demise.

They shared a beautiful black-and-white photo of the late sports star and began their statement by disclosing that Lorenzi’s death was first announced by the Italian Ministry of Defense.

The message continued, “FIS joins FISI President Flavio Roda and the entire Italian winter sports community in mourning, including coaches, athletes, teammates, the federal council, and all FISI staff.”

At the end of their message, the federation reiterated their devastation as they continue to mourn such a significant loss alongside Lorenzi’s family and friends.

Joining FIS in extending their condolences was the Ministry of Defense and its Minister Guido Crosetto.

They posted a message in Italian on X in memory of the late 19-year-old bearer of the Army’s colors, citing how they stand together in mourning with Lorenzi’s family.

The Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) also penned their own statement in Italian about Lorenzi’s passing on their website, where they disclosed upcoming funeral plans.

“Matilde’s funeral will be held on Thursday, October 31st, at 10 AM in Giaveno (To), at the San Lorenzo parish,” stated FISI.

They continued, “The family has expressed a wish not to have flowers but instead asks for donations to the ‘Project in Memory of Matildina.'”

Commemorating Lorenzi’s life, the sports branch of the Italian Army, Centro Sportivo Esercito, shared a dedication post on Instagram.

Their caption, which has been translated from Italian to English, expressed, “Too soon!! This is the only thought that invades our hearts during these days of sorrow.”

“We stand united with your family and Lucrezia, finding consolation in the fact that you went on doing what you loved for so many years. Take a few more turns for us too and watch over those who loved you,” reads the end.

In the aftermath of her passing, Lorenzi’s boyfriend, Federico Tomasoni, has shared posts about her on his Instagram Story.

A standout post has the words, “You are the most beautiful thing that life could ever give me. I love you, little star ❤️,” and depicts a close-up photo of the doting boyfriend’s hand holding onto Lorenzi’s, as she lay covered on a gurney.

Another showed a beautiful video of Lorenzi by the beach, where she could be heard replying, “Ciao,” to Tomasoni, who had greeted her first.

Five days ago, and before she passed away, Lorenzi shared her last post on Instagram, which showed a carousel of charming photos of her enjoying the view of a sunset in Ibiza.

Amid her eye-catching snaps, Lorenzi included an image of her and Tomasoni, whom she lovingly held onto, wrapping her arms around his neck.

Alongside the post, the dearly missed skiing sports talent captioned, “chasing sunsets in ibiza [sic].”

At this time, we extend our most heartfelt condolences to Lorenzi’s family, boyfriend, friends, colleagues, and other loved ones as they grapple with navigating such a significant loss.
