Luna’s mum truly believed that no child should be made fun of or made to feel bad because of how they are different. When she saw her beautiful child being picked on, her heart filled with the desire to do something about it. Together, she and her husband did everything they could to make their little girl smile again.
When Luna was born, she had a big nevus mark on her skin.
Carolina and her husband, Thiago Tavares, didn’t know what to expect when they moved to Florida to become parents. When they saw their baby for the first time, they realised what a great adventure they were in for. When they brought their daughter Luna Tavares-Fenner into their home and hearts, they were filled with joy.
Carolina couldn’t ignore the little voice in her head that kept telling her to take a chance. And when she saw Luna, she knew it had all been worth it. Luna was born with a dark spot on her face that looked like Batman’s mask. It made her eyes, lips, cheeks, and forehead look beautiful.
Not everyone thought and felt the same things about how unique she was.
Carolina remembers a painful time when a woman said hurtful things about her sweet baby girl and even called her a “monster.” Those words hurt Carolina very much and made her feel hurt and upset. She couldn’t stand to think that someone would hurt her daughter’s feelings, so she made a choice.
The Tavares family went on a trip outside of the United States because they were worried about the safety of their little girl. In 2019, Carolina talked about how they chose to travel for Luna’s medical care, even though they were criticised and doubted along the way.
Carolina went above and beyond for her daughter because she was a mother.
Her husband and her worked hard to raise money, getting help from both anonymous donors and people in their neighbourhood. They thought that these good deeds were nothing less than magic.
Their hard work paid off when they found out that Luna’s dark moles were caused by a disease called congenital melanocytic nevus. After just a few treatments, their trip abroad helped them make a lot of progress, which kept them from getting skin cancer. The doctors were surprised by Luna’s willingness to help, especially since kids often get scared of doctors.
Luna’s doctor told her that after six surgeries, the nevus was almost gone.
Luna’s kind and happy personality continues to charm everyone around her. People can’t help but love her because of how happy and hopeful her smile and beautiful hair make them feel.
On April 9, 2023, when Luna’s family celebrated Easter, she was very happy and glowed with joy as she stood with her parents. Every minute she spends with her mum and dad makes her very happy. They love Luna a lot and try to make her world a magical place by giving her lots of love and fun gifts.
In fact, Luna’s future is bright and full of endless opportunities, all because of how hard her parents work and how much they love her. We can’t help but think that Luna’s future will be full of love, happiness, and amazing things.
