Beatriz Pugliese is a beautiful woman from Brazil. Her birthmark is special and covers 80% of her body. Even though this was a unique problem, Beatriz found love and has been married to the same man for nine years. She has decided not to have any more surgery to change how she looks.
“They told me that I looked like a monkey.”
Meet Beatriz Pugliese, who is 28 years old and from So Paulo, was born with a scar called a nevus. This condition is so rare that only 1 in 500,000 people have it.
When asked about her view on life, Beatriz gave a wise answer: “I always tell people that we have to learn to be happy with what we have, in every way, but especially with our differences. We need to know who we are on the inside.”

It may sound like a cliche, but it’s true: we all need to accept ourselves as we were born.
After her last surgery in 2008, she made the brave decision to stop getting any more work done and instead be proud of how she looks. In her own words, she said, “I hope to encourage other people to love themselves and be comfortable in their own skin.”
Even though she was teased as a child and told she looked like a monkey, Ms. Pugliese has grown to love monkeys and other animals very much. She now wants to work closely with these interesting animals because she loves nature more and more.
Love doesn’t care about your skin colour.
Ms. Pugliese’s journey has been very motivating, and she has also found love. Fellipe Koroboff, her 30-year-old husband, is a cook, and they have been married for nine years. During the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, they ran into each other while watching the same game. Their relationship has grown since then.
Ms. Pugliese said, “My birthmarks have never been a problem for him.” Because her husband loves and accepts them, she feels better about herself. “He gives me all the help I could ever want or need.”
She is grateful that her family has never been mean to her.
Ms. Pugliese said she was very grateful for how much her family helped her all the time. She said that they always made sure she didn’t feel like she was different from other kids. They let her wear whatever clothes she wanted, and they never told her to hide her skin from other people.
Their understanding and support for her no matter what helped her feel good about herself and accept what made her different.
People with birthmarks are living examples of individuality and personal stories that show how beautiful our world is because it is so different. Their unique marks give off charm and tell us that embracing our differences makes the whole of humanity more colourful.
