Since the beginning of Love & Hip Hop: New York, Erica Mena has been a regular on the show. People have seen her fight, fall in love, get married, have kids, get divorced, and find a way to make a living. She is known to have a foul mouth and play cards as well as anyone. She is now on the Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta show.
Her verbal attacks have been the stuff of memes, but after she called her Black co-star Spice a “monkey,” people aren’t sure how to feel about her.
The fight between Erica Mena and Spice was heated.
During a fight about Erica’s ex-husband, Safaree Samuels, Spice lashed out at Erica for what he said was her playing the victim in their breakup. Spice tells the woman who used to work for Dash that she is not the only woman who has gotten split and had to raise her two kids from the marriage by herself. When Erica reminds Spice that she has three children, including a 16-year-old son from a past relationship, Spice snaps, “Your son doesn’t like you.” At first, Erica is shocked, and she tells Spice not to talk about her kids. Erica turns the table over when Spice doesn’t stop.
Erica lets loose, telling Spice that after her septic episode last year, she should have died. She also calls Spice a “blue monkey,” referring to the blue wig Spice wears.
People choose sides
Many viewers are offended, and some say Spice started the fight and went too low by bringing up Erica’s kid. She has been popular on Twitter, and people have different things to say about it. Erica has benefited from Black society and has Black children, which makes her comment even worse. But it’s not the first time she’s done something like that to a Black woman. She also sounded like a monkey when she left the restaurant where they met. Fans also think that Spice deserved whatever punishment she got because she said bad things about Erica’s son.
This Isn’t Colorism. This Is Racism
Erica Mena isn’t Black. Colorism is exercised within the same ethnic group/race. Calling Spice a “monkey” is pure, cut & dry textbook RACISM
I implore the confused to get off of social media and open a book/dictionary pic.twitter.com/EEKl91m351

Erica Mena & Evelyn Lozada are the same.
Latinas who kick it with Black women, sleep with Black men, & have biracial children with prejudicial views about Black people. Especially Black women.
Erica would feel a way if someone called her kids monkeys.#BasketballWives #LHHATL

For the slow people in the back, Spice attacked Erica Mena’s parenting not her son was the right thing to do? No but if it’s the first thing you do is go to a racial slur shows me how you really really feel about Black people or women #LHHATL
