When love, loyalty, and being the best at what you do are all in the same pot, it makes for a love that lasts. “Magic and Cookie Johnson have exactly that. In honor of their 28th wedding anniversary, the couple took us down memory lane and told us about the cutest” things that had happened to them over the years.

The basketball Hall of Famer wrote a sweet message about why he chose to marry his wife 30 years ago. He posted it on Instagram. “After three months of dating, I told you and my parents that you were the one I was going to marry,” he says. “Marriage to you was by far one of the best things I’ve ever done.”

He says, “”I am so happy to call you my wife” because of “the job you’ve done as a mother and now as a grandmother”. I hope we’ll be together for many more years. I love you very much… It’s been a year!

Magic also posted a very ’90s shot of them “standing in front of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo while wearing FUBU. “Baby, I have to say, you look just as beautiful now as you did when I met you when you were 18,” the ex-baller wrote to his wife”, giving her a praise.

Mrs. Johnson showed her appreciation with a beautiful set of “then and now” pictures. She writes to the NBA star, “What can I say? You are the most romantic person I’ve ever met.” “You always surprise me and keep me on my toes, and I couldn’t ask for more. Our love is hard to explain, but it’s ours alone because God is in it, and I love every minute of it. I love you so much, and here’s to many, many more.”

Cookie also showed us pictures from their wedding in Lansing, Michigan, in 1991. Lansing is where Magic grew up. Even though the styles have changed, the love has not.

“Magic and Cookie celebrated their anniversary with a delicious meal at the swanky Tao restaurant in Los Angeles”. They have always done things in a big way. “Holly Robinson Peete and her husband, Rodney Peete, and MLB Hall of Famer Dave Winfield and his wife, Tonya Winfield”, joined the couple.

Cookie and Magic met for the first time in 1977, when they were both freshmen in college. “It was so funny because every girl on campus wanted to meet him,” Cookie says. “I just said to myself, ‘Forget it. No way will he choose me over all these other women.'”

“The couple, who have two children together, has stayed together through many ups and downs. Shortly after they got married, Magic found out he had HIV. In an interview with Good Morning America, Magic said that Cookie’s love” for him was the reason he was still alive.

“God told me why I married this woman and why he put us together,” Cookie told Roberts. “I know I’m not Magic when I come home. My name is Earvin. We’re still those Michigan kids. Only Cookie is better than me.”

The Johnsons have been married for a year.
