Ice Cube, an artist with many skills who is best known for his parts in the “Friday” movie series, has said that he wants to take creative control over the popular franchise. He has made it clear, though, that he won’t be buying the rights from Warner Bros., which owns the “Friday” name right now.
A few weeks ago, on Mike Tyson’s “Hotboxin'” show, Ice Cube talked about how upset he was with Warner Bros. and what he hoped would happen with the “Friday” series in the future. Cube wrote and starred in the first three “Friday” movies, which were all made by New Line Cinema. However, he does not have the rights to make a fourth movie at this time.
“Warner Brothers is weird right now,” Cube said to show his worries. What are they doing? I don’t get it. They aren’t right. We’d like it back very much. I believe we will soon get it back. We will have to either wait until then or keep trying to get them to let us show the movie.
Ice Cube said, “I ain’t putting shit up for it” when asked if he’d be ready to pay to get the rights back. Not at all! If they give it to me, they’ll make money. It’s not smart of me to buy my own things. They should give it to us so we can make more money and keep our fans happy.
Ice Cube’s position shows that he thinks the “Friday” franchise is important and doesn’t see why someone else should buy something that he thinks should be theirs.
When Ice Cube talked about writing two more “Friday” plays earlier this year, he said that Warner Bros. turned them both down. Even so, Cube is still hoping that the problem will be solved soon, which would allow him to bring “Last Friday” to the big screen and give fans more memorable moments from the popular show.
