An older man and woman met and fell deeply in love. They chose to get married at the courthouse a few months later.
There are older people in this love story, which makes it a little different. The Cooks live together in the same Ohio senior living community. Their flats are on the same floor, which is how they met and became closer.
The 103-year-old Phyllis said, “To be honest, we fell in love with each other.” We fell in love, even though you think that’s a bit unrealistic for someone our age.
John, who was 100 years old and had served in WWII, said, “Well, we were just compatible in a lot of ways, and we found ourselves enjoying each other’s company.” Each had been married twice before and lost their first spouse.
But they do more fun things together than just play Bingo. Someone asked John what their best thing to do together was, and he said, “Well, I probably shouldn’t talk about that.”
“He’s not sexually dead all the way through, and neither am I!” I told KHOU 11 Phyllis. But her morals made her think: “As a Christian, I just don’t think you should jump in bed with someone unless you’re married.”
John agreed to make her an honest woman, and the two of them went to the office to get a marriage license.
They were shocked to find that they could get married right there at the hall. John explained, “It wasn’t supposed to happen, but we got here and were told we could marry you here.” As he got ready to get married, he said, “I said, ‘Good, let’s get it over with.'”
They may be lucky to have good genes, even though they are old. Phyllis’ mom lived to be 106 years old. They should have many happy years together now that they are married.
Love can be found and new beginnings can be made no matter how old you are.
They know how important it is to have their own place, even though they are married now. According to Phyllis, they are still living in their own homes. They aren’t in a hurry and are taking their time.
