Kurt Russell is the love of Goldie Hawn’s life, but she has no plans to marry him. They’ve been together for decades and feel the same way about the former child star.
During an interview on the now-defunct talk show “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 1991, actress Goldie Hawn hinted that she and Kurt Russell might get married, but told the audience that they were not planning to get married.
In the interview, Oprah Winfrey said that Hawn called Russell, her husband, and asked her in a roundabout way if they got married in secret.
After the crowd cheered her on, Hawn said that she and the “Sky High” star did have a private ceremony, but she quickly explained that it wasn’t really a wedding:
“We did have a small ceremony, but it wasn’t a legal wedding.” Please don’t do that. It’s not okay for us to be closer than that.
In that time, they had been together for seven years. To mark their time together, Russell gave his love a sparkling ring, which she wore on her wedding finger.
Not planning to get married
Hawn said she did call Russell her husband instead of lover or boyfriend. She said they were still talking about what they should call each other and decided “husband” was the right word.
Many people want to know when people are getting married, but Winfrey and Hawn both agreed that having a piece of paper doesn’t prove how much two people love each other.
It’s not going to happen. It is not going to. We both feel that way, Kurt and I. Some people feel like a lot of bad things happen to them when they close the door for the last time. If you leave the door open, you’ll never walk out of it.
She said that many people feel like their lives stopped when they got married. “It is just a piece of paper with a promise on it. But you keep that promise every day.” You don’t stop taking it all at once. Additionally, “You take it every day.”
Russell said something similar again in December 2020 when they talked to People. The star of “The Fate of the Furious” said, “The marriage certificate wasn’t going to give us anything we wouldn’t have had otherwise.”
Past marriages and children’s marriages
The people who have been dating for a long time have been married before. Hawn has been married to Gus Trikonis and Bill Hudson. She has two children with Henry Hudson and Kate Hudson. Russell has been married just once, to Season Hubley. In 1980, they had a son named Boston.
The Hollywood couple added a boy named Wyatt Russell to their mixed-race family in 1986. Between their four children, they are grandparents to seven children, and they don’t feel like they have to get married to be happy.
