Even though breastfeeding is natural, it is still a subject of discussion. Some people think that the baby’s head should always be hidden when breastfeeding in public.
Several things, like the weather, can change how much coverage a breastfeeding mum needs for her baby. Melanie Gibson Dudley is a mother who doesn’t follow the rules.
During her trip to Cabo San Lucas with her family, including her baby, Dudley ran into a member of her group who she didn’t expect to see.
Dudley’s baby needed to be fed while she was at dinner with her group. Even though it was hot, the Texan woman breastfed her child as usual, with a blanket over them.
She told GMA, “It was 95 degrees and humid, and I was standing with my back to the restaurant.” I was covering my baby while I fed him, and it was very hot and sticky outside. I told myself, “Forget this, I’m getting rid of this.” One of the men in our group told me I should cover up because they didn’t want to see my breasts. I didn’t know what to say, so I asked my husband for my cover and put it over my head as a joke.
The friend of Dudley’s mother-in-law thought the mom’s funny picture was funny and posted it on Facebook. In no time at all, the picture went viral and was praised by thousands of other moms.
The woman wrote in her post, “”A friend’s daughter-in-law was told to ‘cover up’ while she was feeding her baby, so she did! I’ve never met her, but I” really like her.Share, please! With your approval, I’m making “this post public. I’m so sick of people making fun of women for nursing! [PS: To” put an end to rumours, a guy “asked her to cover up, it was 90 degrees and very humid, and no, she wasn’t disrespecting traditions in a Muslim country”.
Over 223,000 people have shared the story.
Dudley thinks the post got a lot of attention because “it’s a subject that hits a nerve with a lot of women, and they’re tired of it being a debate topic,” she told GMA.
She told other moms to keep doing what they thought was best for them and their babies. I think the main point is that nursing mothers should be supported, whether they choose to cover or not.
