Patrice Lovely talks about how she played Hattie Mae Love in Tyler Perry’s Madea Cinematic Universe and how she was able to steal scenes from other cast members with her crazy performance. In the most recent episode, “A Madea Family Funeral,” Hattie makes a successful return. In this episode, she comforts people who have lost a loved one while also causing trouble with Madea.
Lovely, who was raised by a single mother in Hamilton, Ohio, and Troy, Alabama, got her start in church music before making up the character of Hattie for a gospel stage play. Lovely was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and was raised there and in Ohio by a single mother. The idea for the character of Hattie came from Lovely’s grandma and aunt. Her unique voice and saying “Ain’t that niiiiice!” made her a big hit right away.
Perry was so surprised by Hattie when he heard about her that he quickly booked a flight to Detroit to see Lovely perform. As the saying goes, what happened after that is history. Hattie first appeared with Madea in the play “A Madea Christmas” in 2011. Perry then made a TV show called “Love Thy Neighbour” with Hattie as the main character. Five seasons of the show were broadcast.
Lovely plays the part of Hattie, which means she has to wear makeup that fits her age. This can take up to an hour and a half. But despite the change, Lovely’s fans can still see her going around Atlanta, where she lives now.
