In 2001, Mary J. Blige proudly said in her hit song “No More Drama” that she wouldn’t put up with any more drama, and she meant it. Now, she did get married and then separated from her now-ex-husband Kendu Isaacs after that song, which brought a lot of drama to her life that was covered by the media. But Mary has kept her head up through everything. The singer is ready to move on with her life, and this time she wants more control over who and what comes into it.
Blige was married to Isaacs for 12 years before a bitter divorce fight started that would last for years. Page Six says that after that, the marriage was ruined by cheating with her artist, Starshell. TMZ also got court papers that showed Kendu spent more than $400,000 on Starshell. On top of everything else, Isaacs asked for a lot of money for spousal support and other expenses. He wanted $5,000 a month to give to his parents, which he had been doing while he was married to Mary. It’s important to remember that Isaacs was not only her husband but also her manager.
“I am not responsible for supporting [Martin’s] parents and his children from another relationship, which he lists as ongoing monthly expenses,” Mary said in court papers, as reported by Page Six. But Isaacs, who also said she couldn’t get a job, was given $30k a month in spouse support. Mary told Variety how she really felt about the trouble that happened because of her now-ex-husband.

I have to stay happy and keep smiling because this is meant to kill me.”
Since her divorce, Blige has been working on a lot of different projects, including a few acting parts. Even though it doesn’t look like she’s ready to date again, one thing is for sure: she won’t date broke guys when she’s ready. “He has to have more money than me, that’s for sure,” Blige told DJ Ace of BBC Radio 1Xtra in an interview. “Because I’m done looking after men!”
