Aaliyah Haughton died “in a plane crash on August 25, 2001. She was” on her way from the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas to Miami after making her last music video for “Rock The Boat.” When the video shoot ended earlier than planned, the Grammy-nominated singer and her team did everything they could to get back to the U.S. They chose to skip their flight for the next day and take one that was leaving that evening instead.
The Independent says that Aaliyah’s group got on a twin-engine Cessna 402, which was smaller than the Cessna 404 they came in. A witness heard her team arguing with the pilot about how much tools and luggage they had brought on the plane. The pilot told them that there were too many people on the plane for a “safe flight.” A few seconds after taking off, one of the engines stopped working, and the plane went down. Aaliyah, the pilot Luis Morales III, family friend Keith Wallace, “Anthony Dodd, security guard Scott Gallin”, her hair stylist Eric Forman, “make-up stylist Christopher Maldonado, and Blackground Records workers Douglas Kratz and Gina Smith all died in the” crash.
“Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number (1994), One in a Million (1996), and Aaliyah (2001”) were the three best records that the 22-year-old singer put out before she died. She also worked closely on many projects with Timbaland, Missy Elliott, and the Superfriends. In the streaming age, her music was nowhere to be found until 2021, when her uncle Barry Hankerson’s label Blackground Records teamed up with Empire to release her albums digitally along with those of Tank, Toni Braxton, and others.

There is also a record coming out after Aaliyah has died. The first song from the album, “Poison,” was released with The Weeknd in December 2021. Since then, Blackground hasn’t said anything else about the project. Aaliyah has also been in a number of movies, such as “Romeo Must Die (2000) and Queen of the Damned (2002”). Before she died, she was going to be in the second and third movies in The Matrix series with Keanu Reeves.
