Nia Long used campaigner Yaba Blay’s words to say bad things about the Boston Celtics a year after she broke up with Ime Udoka, the team’s former coach.

The actor from “Best Man” and “You People” shared a clip from Blay’s 2022 speech on the “We Can Do Hard Things” show on Tuesday. In the clip, Blay talks to hosts Glennon Doyle and Abby Wambach about why she thinks the worries of white women are often more important than those of black women.

“White women are more human and valuable to us because of how we were raised,” Blay, who is black, said. “So we should react to whatever you think and feel.”

“The minute a white woman cries, the world has to stop,” Blay said. Black women cry, and we could be screaming and rolling around on the ground, but you don’t care because you’ve been taught not to see us as people.

The author and activist’s comments about how Black women’s feelings aren’t given as much attention and care seemed to hit home with Long. She wrote in the caption of her post, “Where was this level of awareness a year ago @celtics???”

A year after making Udoka’s cheating on her public, the star called out the basketball team. Since 2015, Udoka had been engaged to Long. In September 2022, the Celtics said that Udoka had been banned for having a sexual relationship with a staff member.

The couple broke up in December, and Long told the Hollywood Reporter that the “Boston Celtics organization decided to make a very private situation public.”

She also said, “If you’re in the business of protecting women—I’m sorry, but no one from the Celtics organization has called to check on me or my kids.” I’m really upset about this.

Long also named the woman who had an affair with Udoka last year in the text of her Instagram post. The Times has decided not to print that name.

“Thank you, @yabablay, for not being afraid to tell us the truth.” Long wrote on her own video, “This is such an important conversation that needs to be heard and understood.” In different comments, comic Luenell, rapper Snoop Dogg, and TV host Shaunie Handerson all spoke out in support of Long.

L. Long, 52, and U. Udoka, 46, have a son together named Kez, 11. The star asked for full custody of their child last month, saying that her ex-fiancé had “failed to support” them. Long and actress Massai Z. Dorsey also have a son together, who is 22 years old. His name is Massai Zhivago Dorsey II.

“The most important thing in my life will never be money; it will be the people I raised,” Long wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.
