On February 5, 2024, Toby Keith died. He was known as one of the most famous people in country music. They said it on the singer’s official Instagram account.
The post said that the famous country music singer died gently with his family by his side. The message continued, “He fought his battle with honor and bravery.” Keith, then 62 years old, told everyone in 2022 that he had cancer.
Toby said in his post that he had been told he had stomach cancer in the fall before. However, he had already been getting radiotherapy and chemotherapy for six months. The singer stayed positive about his outlook during this time and loved spending time with his family.
Even though he was having health problems, Toby stayed dedicated to his love of music. In June 2023, he hosted the yearly Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic event. The two-day event was meant to raise money for the OK Kids Korral in Oklahoma City, which is a center run by the Toby Keith Foundation to help kids with cancer.
Toby said at the event that he hoped for good news about his health and mentioned that he was going to get a scan soon to see how he was doing. He was still positive about his music business and couldn’t wait to start performing again. Despite being sick, he kept his trademark sense of humor, as shown by the funny things he said when he won the Country Icon Award at the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards.
In addition to his work successes, Toby also celebrated important family events. The oldest daughter of his wife Tricia Lucus, Shelley Covel Rowland, whom Toby adopted, is one of his three children. Another of Toby’s daughters, Krystal Keith, joined him on stage at the 2004 CMA Awards to sing “Mockingbird,” one of Toby’s biggest successes.
Ultimately, Krystal put her singing goals on hold to focus on raising her two kids, whom she and her husband, Andrew Sandubrae, raise together. Even so, Toby was very proud of his daughter and praised her amazing singing skills.
Krystal got ideas from her father, but she never stopped working on her own unique style of singing. She looked up to strong female acts like Patsy Cline, Martina McBride, and Reba McEntire and wanted to make her own way in the business.
Stelen Keith Covel, Toby and Tricia’s only son, is said to deal in real estate and co-own businesses like 405 Burger Bar, Hollywood Corners, and Tequila Chulos.
Stelen Covel and Haley Covel have been married since November 2021 and are very happy together. There was a lot of meaning in their wedding because Haley’s father-in-law walked her down the aisle. Toby had doubts about going to his son’s wedding after being told he had cancer because he had seen other people die from it. Despite his worries, he did what Haley asked, which was a very special moment for the famous “Red Solo Cup” singer.
Haley wrote a touching letter to Toby in which she remembered her wedding day with love and thanked him for welcoming her into the family. A grateful note from her heart read, “He welcomed me with open arms, and I will forever treasure that.” At the end of her moving memorial, Haley said, “He walked me down the aisle in 2021 to marry his son.”
Stelen also showed respect for his dad by presenting a photo from their youth. He remembered Toby Keith as being very strong. He said how grateful he was for Toby’s help, advice, and bravery. It was my only goal to make you proud. The loyal son promised, “I will keep doing that.”
